Environmental Health & Safety
Laboratory Safety Unit
All laboratories at the University must be inspected every year. Inspection reports are submitted by the Laboratory Safety Specialists. Any deficiencies found are indicated on the inspection report. All deficiencies must be corrected within 10 days of inspection. Certain deficiencies are “High Hazard Deficiencies”. High Hazard Deficiencies are deficiencies that may immediately affect the health and safety of laboratory staff. If any High Hazard Deficiencies are found the inspector may return, unannounced, within 4-6 weeks to ensure the deficiency has been mitigated. Any uncorrected high hazard deficiency will be escalated to the Departmental Chair/Director or Dean.
