Safety Training for SMH Medical Personnel

Medical Gas Safety Training

OSHA requires personnel who transport/use compressed gas cylinders to have the necessary training and experience to safely handle gas cylinders. Through training and experience, their employer can designate individuals as a “Competent Person” for the handling of gas cylinders.

The training listed below discusses proper transport/storage requirements of gas cylinders, gas systems that can be handled, gas systems that must never be manipulated, and actions to be taken should a pressure relief valve fail. Also available is an attendance sheet that supervisors should use to track staff who have attended a gas safety training session and have the necessary experience to safely handle compressed gas cylinders.
