Research Laboratory Safety Training

All lab safety training provided for the University research community by Environmental Health & Safety will be offered as a combined biological and chemical session. A combined session is the most efficient method of obtaining and delivering important safety information.  These sessions will include:

  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) compliance training for the standards:
           Bloodborne Pathogens, 29 CFR 1910.1030
           Formaldehyde Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1048
           Laboratory Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1045
Personal Protective Equipment, 29 CFR 1910.132
  • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) issues for minimizing waste and disposal of regulated medical waste and hazardous waste
  • General biosafety information including CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), New York State Department or Health, and Department of Environmental Conservation issues

To assure compliance with federal regulations, all individuals working in labs or supervising lab personnel must attend one of these sessions annually. It is not necessary to register in advance for any of these sessions. If special accommodations are required, please notify us at x5-3241.

Although we prefer laboratory personnel attend one of these training sessions, we have made computer-based training programs available on our web page for staff who are unable to attend one of the "live" sessions. Please note: The next "live" session will be until the fall. Any changes to this schedule will be posted at this website.
