Sanitarian's Office Training for Students in Dining Centers
|
Sanitarian's OfficeThe Sanitarian's Office staff is responsible for helping the University achieve and maintain a healthful environment. Areas of program management include inspection of all food operations, training food services personnel, approving outside caterers hired to work inside the University, investigation and follow up of any food-related health and safety complaints. Additionally, questions regarding water quality, poor housekeeping practices, or general sanitation should be directed to this office. Food EventsHaving food as part of a larger event or as an event itself can provide a tremendous amount of enjoyment and fun. However, for the organizers of such an event, there is also a tremendous responsibility to ensure the food supply is safe and that all applicable health codes are followed. Foodborne illness continues to be a significant problem, with the latest estimate of 76 million cases each year in the United States alone. For this reason the foodservice industry is highly regulated by federal, state, and local governments. The links below will provide information to help you enjoy your event while adhering to University and regulatory requirements.
There have been significant changes in 2008 with the entire food event process, so please take the time to review the information via the links below. There is a major difference between a Temporary Food Event and a Catering event and this is explained in the “Food Event Requirement Guidelines” link. The Sanitarian’s Office is still involved with Temporary Food Events, however, the Approved Catering List and details regarding catering events is now part of the Corporate Purchasing website under the link labeled “Approved Food Caterers”.
